Esthetic Recontouring in Jerusalem

What is esthetic recontouring?

Esthetic recontouring is the most conservative procedure in dentistry because we’re not bonding or capping or doing anything that would require a local anesthetic or putting the tooth to sleep. What we are doing is slightly reshaping teeth — especially the upper and lower front teeth — that might have small fractures or chips. By using small sandpaper discs, we reshape and recontour that area and some of the other teeth if they’re not even or properly rounded. It’s a very beautiful technique that I learned from Dr. Ronald Goldstein. Years ago, he lectured on how to complete esthetic recontouring in the most conservative way. I keep his book, Change Your Smile, in my waiting room.

What are the benefits of esthetic recontouring versus other procedures?

For one, esthetic recontouring is usually done at no charge in our office. We consider it an additional (or add-on) procedure.

I tell my patients that they’ve chosen the best procedure because it won’t cost them anything! Most dentists don’t get involved in esthetic recontouring, choosing to leave the teeth as is, whether they are chipped or uneven or in need of some reshaping. This said, I enjoy esthetic recontouring because I have a feel for it. I hand the patient a mirror and say, “Look at this.” They’re not even looking at their small fracture. I tell them, “Watch what I can do.” They cannot believe how they look afterwards. They marvel at the outcome and how their smile was improved in a matter of minutes.

When would the need for esthetic recontouring be detected?

The need for esthetic recontouring would be detected during a general checkup. It falls under the subheading of cosmetic dentistry. I enjoy doing little things for patients that will make a large change in how their teeth look and how they feel about themselves. Esthetic recontouring gives patients an instantaneous increase in their self-image.

Is there an actual procedure when you perform esthetic recontouring?

Esthetic recontouring happens when I am doing something completely different such as preparing a crown or bonding a tooth when I notice that a tiny bit of recontouring and reshaping would help the outcome without doing any bonding or adding anything. In this case, we could take care of the esthetic recontouring right away — chairside.

Is there any special care one must do after receiving esthetic recontouring?

There is no special aftercare with esthetic recontouring. The tooth looks more beautiful, it’s reshaped, and regular brushing and flossing recommendations apply.

Why would a dental patient go to Doctor Prenzlau for esthetic recontouring?

A lot of doctors won’t do esthetic recontouring. I have an eye for aesthetics and cosmetic dentistry. This is a part of dentistry that I enjoy — helping patients improve their smiles.

How long does esthetic recontouring take and is there any pain involved?

Patients don’t need any local anesthetic for esthetic recontouring. There is generally no pain because we’re just reshaping the enamel and there’s no discomfort whatsoever. Esthetic recontouring is excellent for chipped teeth and for patients who have been grinding their teeth or wearing away part of their front teeth. We can smooth out, even out, reshape and recontour their teeth in a few minutes. Not only will their teeth feel smoother to their tongues, but they’ll also look better when patients look in the mirror. Esthetic recontouring improves their image and self-image tremendously.

Additional information about esthetic recontouring

Most dentists don’t pay attention to esthetic recontouring. It’s something that’s very personal and that I notice. I do a lot of esthetic recontouring.
