What is Beit Liz?

In August of 1994, our Oral Health Center relocated to our present location. At that time, Liz Cohen, who was the wife of one of our dental technicians, joined our group, eventually becoming one of our “top dental assistants”. When we began renovations to upgrade our office in 2012, unfortunately Liz, who was pregnant at the time, was diagnosed with a life-ending illness. The doctors were able to save the baby, but she passed away just a few days after the birth of her
baby son. She was a wonderful person, a great dental assistant, and a “star member” of our dental team. Dr. Prenzlau decided to memorialize her forever by calling our renovated office Beit Liz.

Beit Liz means “the “house of Liz”. Unfortunately, she did not live to see the final result of our renovations and our updated and modernized Clinic. We have hung a plaque with her picture in our waiting room describing the outstanding qualities of such a special and unusual person, and remain close to her family.

Who Was Liz Cohen?

Liz Cohen was born in Casablanca in 1979, and completed her early schooling there, until the age of 17. As a child she already felt a strong love for Eretz Yisrael. She was fortunate to be able to visit many times, and dreamt of eventually coming to settle here.

When her family made Aliya in 1997, Liz continued her studies, earning a degree in 2001 from Michlelet Hadassah as a Certified Dental Technician. Soon after, she decided that she preferred to try her hand as a dental assistant. With the help of her husband, Shimon Cohen, whom she had met in the Dental Technology Program, Liz found her way to our office, and became Dr. Prenzlau’s “right hand” dental assistant for the next 10 years.

How did Liz Cohen come to the Oral Health Center?

After her marriage to Shimon in 2002, Liz continued working in our office on a full-time basis. Despite the daily commute from Ramat Beit Shemesh, Liz was still able to successfully raise a beautiful family of three children.

Not only were her clinical skills and work ethic exceptional, but it soon became evident that her glowing personality, gentle voice, and her unique interpersonal skills with both staff members and patients, made for a winning combination. She was beloved to one and all, an Ahuva al Habriot, and Ahuva al Hamakon. (beloved to G-d, as well as to people). She was not one to speak Lashon Hara, and always had something nice to say about everyone. She was proficient at handling the most difficult clinical and technical issues, as well as complicated aspects regarding patients, with equal finesse and grace. Her secret formula for this was to be firm in principle, yet flexible in procedure. Everyone admired Liz for her ability to do this with ease and refinement, for it was not an easy task.

On the tenth of Teves, 5771, all of this came to an abrupt and tragic end. At the tender age of 30 years, in the midst of her fourth pregnancy, Liz was suddenly taken from us. She was not privileged to hold her youngest son in her arms, but miraculously, he survived, even though she passed away only a few days later.

Liz is dearly missed by one and all, and to commemorate her short stay in this world and in our lives, this renovated office, which she anxiously anticipated, is named in her memory.
